Position:    Receptionist - Office Assistant

Duties:    The Career Services Center (CSC) is looking for student assistants to work during the Fall ’10-Spring ’11 semesters. The successful candidate will serve as an initial point of contact in the Career Services reception area; refer appropriate resources to Center visitors and telephone inquiries; assist with various Career Center events and serve as an ambassador of Career Services. Duties will include standard receptionist responsibilities; clerical assistance, job posting data entry, and other administrative duties as assigned. Professional demeanor and excellent communication skills are a must. Blackboard training modules to be completed prior to mandatory on-site training scheduled on Wednesday, August 18 from 9am-5pm and Thursday, August 19 from 9am-1pm (day two optional).
     
Required skills:    Developed computer and clerical skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs a plus. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. The successful candidate will be dependable with the ability to work independently, possess strong organizational skills and be detail oriented with superior time management and customer service skills. Position:    Marketing Student Assistant
Positions Available:    1
Duties:    The Career Services Center (CSC) is looking for a part-time Marketing Student Assistant for the Fall 2010/Spring 2011 semesters. Seeking a student interested in obtaining hands-on experience with implementing a marketing plan. This upbeat and outgoing student will work to inform students about the services and programs of the CSC by coordinating CSC’s cross-campus advertising and conducting outreach activities to fellow students in residence halls, via student clubs/organizations, information tables, events, etc.
     
Required skills:    The ideal candidate should have an interest in marketing; reliable and able to meet weekly deadlines (very important); ability to work well independently; organized and detail-oriented with good time management skills; excellent communication skills and comfortable outreaching to peers; interested in helping CSC educate students about its services, events, and programs; interested in conducting outreach to students.

Position:    Career Peer Advisor
Positions Available:    1
Duties:    Career Peer Advisors assist the Career Services Center in extending career services and information to the UMBC student body. It is preferred that students are able to commit at least one academic year to the following duties and responsibilities: take walk-in appointments, review resumes and cover letters; assist with part-time and full-time job searches including basic interviewing; facilitate workshops/seminars; help market CSC services and programs to UMBC student body; design and present group information meetings upon request to student organizations, residence halls, and other groups; provide general office reception duties; work closely with CSC staff on special projects as needed. Blackboard training modules to be completed prior to mandatory on-site training scheduled on Wednesday, August 18 from 9am-5pm and Thursday, August 19 from 9am-1pm.
     
Required skills:    Continuing undergraduate in good academic standing; strong interest in helping others and working with students, staff, employers, and faculty; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; experience with public speaking preferred; ability to use tact and diplomacy in working with others both face to face and on the phone; previous or current involvement in campus organizations or activities; computer literacy and comfort with PowerPoint presentation technology; detail oriented, dependable and reliable; initiative and enthusiasm. All majors invited to apply.
